winter fire safety

fire

As the mercury starts to fall across the State, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) is urging residents to put fire safety first.

Winter is a typically busy period for firefighters, with more fires occurring in June, July and August, than any other time of year.

Last year, almost two fires were caused by cooking equipment every day in Queensland during the winter months. Kitchen fires are especially dangerous because they start very quickly and can spread to the rest of the house in just minutes.  Make certain too your Smoke alarms are operating and fully charged.

A Market showing compassion

thai

The members of the Hatton Vale Uniting Church financially support L.A.M.B. International Ltd which is a nonprofit organisation raising awareness, funds and supporting Children’s Homes in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand.

There are countless children who would not normally receive an education.

This is through poverty, abandonment or selling of the children into slavery.

Their goal is to prevent this from happening by giving them love, food, education and support in a loving Christian environment.

At the three Homes the children are taught their true value and important skills to help them in their future.

In Australia there is so much help, government funding plus support and networking groups.

In Thailand there is nothing of this kind of assistance.

For this reason the team of people at L.A.M.B. became involved to give a child a future, love and a life is priceless.

Without support they have nothing and could be taken into slavery, abandonment or even die.

The children would not be educated and thereby be unemployable in the future.

They also would not be able to speak any Thai as the tribal villages all speak their own dialect thus keeping the children in further poverty.

Funds are raised through various means and child sponsorships are welcomed.

The team of dedicated people also work with the Homes to offer various support making them self-sufficient.

The CEO of L.A.M.B. International is Raelene Wilson who recently delivered a presentation at the Laidley Uniting Church Complex.

The members of the Laidley and Hatton Vale Uniting Churches will hold a Saturday afternoon market with a difference to raise funds for the Children’s Homes in Northern Thailand.

On Saturday June 15th at 1pm there will be a Fair Trade presentation of exquisite treasures, lovingly handcrafted by talented artisans.

Many articles will be displayed and available for purchase by our guests.

Guest speaker will be Pam McGann of Siham Craftlink, an Australian stockist of Fair Trade products.

This free market will be open to the general public with the invitation to bring a friend and enjoy the afternoon tea provided.

Two of the L.A.M.B. International Ltd Team resides at Regency Downs and they will welcome the support from the Lockyer Valley Community.

Graham and Lorri Roll would welcome the opportunity to tell their personal story of their commitment and what they experience when they travel to Thailand to give practical help and support.

Their telephone number is 54656927.

Graham has been described as “the Pied Piper of children”. Where ever he goes he seems by surrounded by them. He has a gentle nature and he truly cares about people, young and old. He has worked many jobs, mainly in construction. He left home at age fourteen and describes his early years as “eventful”.

As a husband and father he worked hard to provide for his family and sometimes that meant working long hours. He didn't mind the work but he didn't like being away from his family. Over the years we have had many children with many problems. We have loved them all. When we got involved with the work in Thailand, Graham said we should support it but we are busy with what we have here so we can't do much. His first visit changed all that. He fell in love with the children, the country and the culture and he hasn't been the same since. He has made four trips so far. We go twice a year (each). Because of our children we can't travel together. Maybe one day.
