Ipswich detectives have charged a 69-year-old man after $8000 worth of power tools were allegedly stolen from the Ipswich area on January 14.
It will be alleged that around 12:20am, the tools were stolen from a locked tool box on a ute parked in York Street, East Ipswich.
It will be further alleged that the tools were equipped with tracking devices, which allowed the victim to provide location information to police.
Detectives responded, and a search warrant was executed at an address in Iron Bark, where all the tools were recovered.
The 69-year-old Iron Bark man was at the address at the time of the search warrant and was issued a notice to appear for receiving tainted property.
He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on February 29.
Ipswich District Detective Inspector Wayne Francis said the quick result came about through the GPS tracking devices, which provided invaluable location information to detectives and is a prime example of how Queenslanders can take steps to protect their property.
“Trackers can be as small as a five-cent coin and can be placed to be hidden from any would-be thieves. If applied correctly, it can be invaluable for police, if items are stolen.” Detective Inspector Francis said.
“However trackers may not always be an option, so even just placing unique engravings or markings on your property and keeping a record of them can go a long way in assisting police to identify and recover stolen property.”
