However, in a new interview with British GQ, Kidman is dispelling the myth. “That’s not true,” she says, addressing the long-standing rumor that the image was taken after her divorce was finalized. “That wasn’t real life. It was from a film. I know the image you’re talking about!”
She further explains that the viral moment actually came from a scene in a movie, not a personal celebration. “I’ve also seen the one where I’m clapping,” she adds, referring to another popular image. “I had this massive, heavy borrowed ring on, and it was really painful, so I was trying not to wreck the jewelry. Ha! There’s always a story behind these images, right?”
So, for those who believed that the picture marked a joyful moment of freedom after her divorce, it seems the truth is a bit less glamorous—though still memorable in its own way.
