Concerns patients can’t afford GP appointments

The Primary Health Network is concerned locals will neglect their health, as more doctors increase their costs.

Darling Downs West Moreton PHN CEO Lucille Chalmers says there is a growing trend towards “Mixed” Billing – rather than “Bulk” Billing.

She fears it will mean more people could end up in hospital if they cannot afford to see a doctor.

“Ultimately that’s what we fear will happen,” Ms Chalmers says.

“Rather than looking after their health in timely way through their GP, that they will end up in hospital.”

Ms Chalmers is hoping tonight’s Federal Budget will address the funding arrangements of Medicare.

“We’re really pleased to know that there is a serious look at this through the Medicare Taskforce, that they do recognise that we do have a general practice crisis,” she says.
