Greater Springfield’s population is expected to boom to 145,000 – the size of Darwin.
Managing Director of the Springfield City Group Raynuha Sinnathamby made the comments while marking the city’s 30th Birthday this week.
Ms Sinnathamby says they’ve come along way since purchasing 3000 hectares of land in 1992.
“We have grown from one resident, who was essentially looked after the pastoral holdings when they were here, to 53,000 residents who now call Springfield home.
“So it has been a roller coaster ride not just for Springfield City Group but for every resident, which is part of this community,” she says.
The Managing Director says that Springfield City Group’s next plans are to create 50,000 jobs for the region.
“They will be focused in the areas of Education, Health and IT,” Ms Sinnathamby says.
“These industries have been pillars of our community since we started and that’s where we hope the bulk of jobs will be over the next two decades,” she says..
Springfield is now surrounded by homes, businesses, shopping centres, roads, rail, schools, university, stadium and a hospital .
