The streets of Springfield won’t be a ‘Sea of Pink’ this weekend with the International Women’s Day Fun Run postponed due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

The event, presented by Queensland X-Ray, would have seen Mater’s ‘Chicks in Pink’ and hundreds of others running over a 5 kilometre course leaving from Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday.

Mater Foundation Chief Executive Andrew Thomas said the decision to postpone Springfield’s event is due to the cyclone and to ensure the safety of participants, staff, volunteers and the wider community.

“This decision has not been taken lightly and has been made following close consultation with local and state government, as well as event stakeholders”

Mr Thomas said that participants will still be able to turn their local streets and parks pink by participating in our virtual event – 5K Your Way – which has been extended until Sunday 23 March.

The Mater Foundation needs to raise $1.8 million to fight breast cancer this year.
