Plans for a second interchange bridge to Karalee are now underway after community consultation wound up on the project.

The decision to move ahead with a second bridge followed community feedback on two concept designs for the Mount Crosby Interchange Upgrade released by Transport and Main Roads in 2022, which revealed support for a new motorway connection to Karalee and surrounding suburbs.

TMR will now further define the design before releasing detailed plans to the public.

Federal Blair MP Shayne Neumann said that the interchange, once built, will come close to Karalee Shopping Centre and Karalee Tavern.

“The second bridge will also link up with the potential Moggill Bypass Corridor,” he said.

Mr Neumann said this is a very good thing for a growing community; it will improve traffic flow and capacity and alleviate excessive queuing from ramps along the highway and Mt Crosby Road.

“There’s been a huge number of crashes including fatalities there unfortunately over the years,” he said.

However, the Federal Blair MP was not able to rule out plans to resume properties.

“We have to have a look at that!

“The final design has to be refined and there will be some land resumptions and some changes that need to be made as there are additional road offramps and egress and other sorts of aspects into the bridge across – so there will be some changes there,” he said.

It will also include a southern service road with active transport paths to make the interchange safer and more convenient for people riding bikes.

TMR received 630 submissions from members of the community on the Mt Crosby Interchange Upgrade.

64 percent of respondents supported a new motorway connection to Karalee.
