Don't bother trying to check Facebook or Instagram on Thursday as neither is working still.
Facebook said it is aware of the problem which is also affecting Messenger and Instagram. Currently neither the APP nor the desktop versions appear to be working.
News Corp reports that according to downdector.com, which monitors websites, the outages started around 3:00AM AEST in parts of the United States, including the East and West Coast, parts of Europe and elsewhere.
Facebook has said it is working to resolve the issue.
We are also hearing that plenty of people are hassling emergency services because they can't access social media sites.

QFES advises Facebook and Insta are down and Zuckers is on the job. If affected, we recommend non-digital activities. Check your smoke alarms, review your home fire safety plan... and phone a friend, not Triple Zero (000).
The SES has reportedly received 100 calls for help from people not coping with not being able to check Facebook and Instagram.
It comes after Gmail crashed on Wednesday.
The outage was the result of a problem at Google and impacted users worldwide.
Google sent users the following message, "The problem with Gmail should be resolved".
"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support.
"Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better" the message read.
Then the clever people within the Queensland Police Service's media team posted the below.
