Federal Blair MP Shayne Neumann (pictured above) says Newstart is far too low in Australia, and needs to be reviewed.
His comments come as welfare advocates and business groups push to have the unemployment benefit increased, by $75 a week.
The Morrison government is reluctant to go down this path.
Mr Neumann says Newstart hasn't had a real increase in 20 years:
"I think it is time for us to have a really good look at Newstart! When you have got people like the Business Council of Australia, you've got ACOSS and a number of other groups all calling for the government to look at it.
This government is in office, it should be in power and should look at this issue in greater detail".
