Police say GPS tracking devices are a way to prevent opportunistic thieves from stealing vehicles in areas such as Ipswich.
The warning comes in response to an increase in vehicle thefts in Queensland from over 14,000 last financial year to more than 16,000 this year.
Ipswich property crime Detective Lee Fortune says the GPS devices can be a big help:
"Where I have had cases where GPS technology has been fitted to the vehicle it allows us to locate where the vehicle is and the offenders with the vehicle and prevents any pursuits or risks to the public in regards to more dynamic strategies to try and recover those vehicles".
