State agrees on public hand over of Gatton and Wacol prisons

The state government says it has reached an agreement on when the operation of two, privately owned prisons will be returned to public control.
This year the Palaszczuk government made the decision to  take back control of Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre at Wacol in mid-2020 and the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre at Gatton in mid-2021 due to the number of assaults on staff.
The state government is to spend $111 million over five years with further costs of $29 million in the buy back.
They say they are committed to employing existing staff.
