Detectives have released CCTV footage of the driver of a white ute wanted over a hit-and-run incident at a hoon rally east of Ipswich.

The video footage shows a white Holden Commodore VE ute flying down Spine Street, in Sumner, on Saturday night, as hoons scrambled into their cars when police arrived.

Police believe the driver is responsible for hitting a 17-year-old Warner girl when she was crossing the road, and leaving her on the road in a serious condition.

Instead of stopping to help her and get medical treatment, the driver allegedly took off.

Investigators on the Forensic Crash Unit are hoping the video footage will encourage anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.

The vehicle involved is a white Holden Commodore VE utility with no attached registration plates and pre-existing damage on its left-hand side panels.

The driver is described as male, Caucasian in appearance with a bald head and tattoos on the left side of his face.

Information can be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
