Hutchies appointed as contractor for Qld satellite hospital project

The State Government is a step closer to bringing the $265 million Satellite Hospitals Program to life with the appointment of Hutchinson Builders as managing contractor with hundreds of local jobs in the pipeline.

Premier Annastasia Palaszczuk told parliament today the Satellite Hospitals Program will deliver seven new facilities - Ipswich, Caboolture, Gold Coast, Redland City, Bribie Island and Brisbane’s north and south - to support public healthcare delivery in rapidly growing communities across southeast Queensland.

Ms Palaszczuk says land acquisition for the sevens facilities is either finalised or underway.

“This is about investing in health and infrastructure,” she says.

“The economic benefits will be significant with the Satellite Hospitals Program anticipated to support almost 770 local jobs during construction and many more once operational.”

Ms Palaszcuk says community consultation has taken place to ensure the services offered are what each region needs.

The range of services includes community health, ambulatory and low acuity day therapy services – such as chemotherapy, urgent care for minor injury and illness – as well as outpatient activities.

Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says increasing the capacity of Queensland’s health services in high-demand locations ensures Queenslanders in some of our highest growth population centres have easy access to health services where and when they need them.

“We are committed to supporting our emergency departments because Queenslanders expect and deserve no less.” she says.

Managing director Greg Quinn says Hutchinson Builders has significant experience in health and education projects across the state.

“We’re already working with local consultants and briefing local subcontractors and local suppliers to ensure we meet the tight timelines and produce a top-quality outcome for Queenslanders,” Mr Quinn said.

“The satellite hospitals project will be led by Hutchies team leader Jamie Washington.

“He has a great team around him and they are rearing to get on with it.”
