SOMERSET BUDGET: Mayor says council debt free, rates to increase 2.5 percent

Somerset residents, small business owners and farmers will be hit with a 2.5 percent rate rise, after Mayor Graeme Lehmann (above) handed down councils $44.4 million Budget for 2018-19 today.
In a statement, the Mayor says council has worked hard to keep rate increases low and keep the council debt-free this financial year.
Out of the Budget, the council has promised to pour $7.5 million dollars into replacing 12 ageing timber bridges in the region, $130,000 for a proposal to pipe water from Wivenhoe Dam to farms along Lockyer Creek and $700,000 towards the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.
