So how do you stop birds from getting hit by cars?
If you are the Somerset council, you slash their nesting grounds - and plant trees nearby to convince them to move.
Somerset Regional Council has completed vegetation management work at Minden Lagoon ahead of the next cattle egret breeding season.
The birds use Minden Lagoon and community members are concerned at the number hit by cars - so mayor Graham Lehmann says council's cut vegetation on one side, and planted trees on the other side of the lagoon.
It'll take time, but he hopes nesting birds will stay away away from the road over time - in the meantime, motorists are being urged to take extra care.
