Driver arrested over hit-run accident

A driver has been arrested over a hit-run incident in a South Australian regional town that left a woman with serious injuries.

Police allege the Holden ute was doing burnouts when it hit a female pedestrian, then fled the scene in Whyalla Norrie on Friday night.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene at about 8:30pm.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The ute was later located nearby and was seized for forensic examination.

A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with causing harm by use of a vehicle, and leaving the scene of a collision without rendering assistance.

He was also charged with exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol as he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.066.
