There’s no doubt that Shrek is one of the best animated franchises of all time that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike and it’s now confirmed to be getting another sequel. Shrek 5 is in the works but not only that, a Donkey spin-off solo film and it’s all come straight from the Donkey’s mouth, Eddie Murphy.
Speaking in a recent interview on the press tour for his latest film ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”, he confirmed that a fifth “Shrek” is already well into production and should arrive in cinemas ahead of the franchise’s twenty-fifth anniversary in 2026.

He said: “We started doing Shrek 4 or 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out, and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie.” Source: Collider
Murphy has been the voice of the popular character ‘Donkey’ since the first film “Shrek” in 2001. The franchise has generated over $4 billion at the box office from a budget of over $750 million. The last instalment was Shrek Forever After in 2010 but it has also spawned a live musical and other spin-off movies based on the Antonio Banderas character Puss in Boots.
